Vellum Architects

At Vellum, we explore the future of design, today!

Thoughtful innovation in architecture and design!

At Vellum, we are leaders in the integration of new technologies into the design process. We currently use Virtual Reality (VR) for the remote visualization of our projects, aerial drones for on-site analyses, and 3D printing tools for prototyping.

We also have a keen interest in emerging technologies, such as Augmented and Mixed Reality (AR and MR), and their role in reshaping the design process.

It is through a better understanding of technology, and its effective application to architecture, that we consistently achieve a level of clarity that assures us, and our clients, of optimal communications and the best possible results.

Vellum & VR

Visualizing and inhabiting digital space.

Vellum’s weapon of choice for VR visualization of our projects is Twinmotion, a 3D immersion software we use in conjunction with ArchiCAD.

The combination of these two powerful tools enables us to quickly transform traditional 3D models into immersive VR environments, which we can share and edit in real time.

Our clients and contractors can remotely visualize and navigate these 3D models without the need of purchasing any type of software. Using BIMx, a design and presentation tool developed by Graphisoft, we can create game-like 3D environments that you can explore from your own computer or mobile device.

Here are some of the advantages to integrating VR into our design process:

  • We can test and edit hundreds of materials and textures directly on immersive VR models.
  • We can change the time of day, and add environmental elements such as rain, snow, and more, creating a more realistic experience of a site and project.
  • You can navigate these VR models, and even teleport to specific locations within a project.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… a drone!

Our passion for technology has also led us to using aerial drones to gather site data, monitor construction work, and create amazing flythroughs of a site and project.
